Amazigh Political Movement Announces Founding Congress Soon
The Amazigh Political Movement held a regional outreach meeting in El Hajeb on the afternoon of Saturday, October 10, 2026, in coordination with the Amur Association for Amazigh Culture and Human Rights. Activists from a number of Moroccan cities and regions took part, including Sefrou, Meknes, El Hajeb, Ifrane, Boufakrane, Agourai and Khenifra, along with Amazigh figures from the southeast.
The meeting offered an opportunity to open a responsible discussion on the state of the Amazigh cause and the prospects for action to advance it, in an atmosphere marked by fraternity, frankness and an exchange of views on the various issues involved.
During the meeting, members of the national steering committee of the Amazigh Political Movement presented a detailed report on the committee’s work since the idea of founding this organization was first launched, reviewing the main meetings held as well as the obstacles encountered along the way.
The meeting also allowed members of the steering committee and the preparatory committee to hear participants’ contributions, remarks and guidance, which stressed the need to use all legitimate means to secure justice for the Amazigh language and to give it the central place it deserves as a fundamental component of building the state and society.
Participants stressed the importance of continuing communication and bringing together serious activist energies, in order to deepen the debate on the Amazigh cause. This would start from a diagnosis of the current political and social reality and explore the possibility of building an advocacy force capable of defending the Amazigh language and the rights of the Imazighen in all fields.
They also emphasized the importance of founding a political organization that addresses the Amazigh cause in its entirety and links the struggle for justice to questions of democracy and human rights. In this context, the steering committee announced that the founding congress of the Amazigh Political Movement will be held in the coming period.
On political and human rights positions, participants expressed solidarity with the detainees of the Rif popular movement (Hirak) and with all prisoners of opinion and expression in Morocco, demanding their immediate release as an essential step toward building a democratic Morocco that guarantees rights and freedoms.
They also stressed the need to generalize the teaching of the Amazigh language and teaching in it, to do justice to its teachers, and to end the policy of procrastination and delay in implementing the commitments related to it.
Likewise, participants insisted on drafting a democratic constitution that enshrines a fair distribution of wealth and power within a federal, secular and modern system that responds to society’s aspirations for democracy, justice and equality.
The meeting concluded with the appointment of Abdessamed Finigue as regional coordinator of the Central Morocco coordination of the Amazigh Political Movement, a step intended to strengthen the movement’s organizational presence and broaden regional channels of communication and coordination.
