NGO urges investigation into minors joining Tangier Palestinian solidarity protests

The “Don’t Touch My Child” NGO has called for an investigation into the involvement of children and minors in recent demonstrations in Tangier. This stance follows the circulation of video footage and photographs showing minors wearing clothing bearing symbols and slogans expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

In an official press release, the child rights defense association reaffirmed its commitment to freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest. However, it warned that the legitimacy or righteousness of a cause can under no circumstances justify the instrumentalization of children for political agendas, nor the endangerment of their physical and psychological safety.

The NGO also recalled that the right of minors to express their opinions peacefully is guaranteed by the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. Nevertheless, their exploitation or involvement in political conflicts and calculations, in direct violation of the principle of the best interests of the child, must be subject to legal proceedings.

In this regard, the organization is demanding that the competent authorities conduct thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding the gathering of these children and identify those responsible for exposing them to danger. It stated that it reserves the right to take legal action against both the organizers and the legal guardians of the participating children.

The organization concluded by insisting that it is unacceptable to turn children into instruments of political pressure. It reiterated that the protection of minors constitutes an absolute duty that must prevail above all political or ideological alignments and stakes.
