Families Left Without Aid: Al Haouz Earthquake Victims Protest Outside Parliament
Dozens of survivors of the Al Haouz earthquake gathered outside Parliament in Rabat on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the call of the National Coordination of Al Haouz Earthquake Victims. They are demanding that authorities settle the cases of families who say they have received no aid or compensation whatsoever.
Protesters held signs calling for justice for families they say remain excluded from the lists of beneficiaries. Nearly three years after the disaster, they argue, this situation has only deepened the hardship faced by households still unable to rebuild their homes or receive the compensation owed to them.
Several participants said the protest came after they had exhausted every available administrative and institutional channel. Complaints, formal appeals and earlier sit-ins have failed to produce a final resolution for cases they consider still pending.
The National Coordination of Al Haouz Earthquake Victims said the action was meant to renew its call for the resolution of all cases involving families who have yet to receive assistance. The group is urging authorities to adopt clear, fair criteria for processing aid claims, ensuring equal treatment for all survivors.
It also called for an independent investigation into the management of the aid and compensation program, to identify what it describes as serious shortcomings and to hold those responsible accountable.
Protesters said they would continue peaceful demonstrations and pursue legal and institutional advocacy until their demands are met. Their top priority, they said, is ensuring that all eligible families can access the aid and compensation needed to rebuild their homes.
